Expression of interest: Exciting Opportunity: Teach Design Courses in China with Whitireia and WelTec

Job Type: Teaching Design Courses in China, Contract for Service with opportunities for extensions.

Overview:

Whitireia and WelTec are seeking a number of passionate and qualified Design Tutors for exciting teaching opportunities in China. In these roles, you will deliver a range of courses from the Bachelor of Creativity (Digital Media & Design and Animation). Each course is delivered in block mode over 4 weeks. Depending on your subject expertise, contracts range from 4 to 12 weeks, with teaching taking place between September to December 2026.

Subject Areas: We are recruiting tutors for the following areas:

• Animation (After Effects)
• Illustration (Illustrator)
• Image Making / Drawing (mostly analogue)
• Web Design (Figma)
• Publication Design (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
• Stop Motion (Photoshop, After Effects)

Responsibilities:

As a Design Tutor, you will lead engaging and practical tutorials that captivate and educate students. Course materials that inspire and challenge learners is supplied. Creating a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment is crucial, as is mentoring students and supporting their academic journeys. You will work with translators and/or other design educators in the classrooms, assess student performance, providing constructive feedback that helps them grow and succeed in their studies.

Qualifications:

To be successful, you must be available to travel to China for one month durations during September to December 2026. A relevant Master’s degree, for example MDes, or min. Bachelors’ degree (Hons) in design or a related field is required, along with some teaching or tutoring experience, preferably at the polytechnic or university level. Industry experience is also of benefit, and while travel experience is preferable, it is not mandatory.
