International Student Advisor

Our international student admissions and pastoral support team in Wellington needs an International Student Advisor to provide pastoral support to our international students.  Coordinating homestay arrangements is one of the main duties but you will also be involved in planning and presenting at orientation events, arranging airport transfers, advising students face-to-face or by email and phone, and assisting the wider international team, including with admissions in busy periods. 

Experience working with international students and a calm and professional demeanor are important.  Come and be part of a busy but supportive team and put your knowledge of pastoral care of international students into practice.  

Key accountabilities

  • Monitor and maintain contact with WelTec and Whitireia approved homestay providers, including police checks and payments.  Arrange airport transfers as required.
  • Respond and assist international students in a timely and courteous manner; take responsibility for the 24/7 international mobile assistance helpline when required.
  • Develop and maintain extensive knowledge of all matters relevant to international students, including visas, fees and insurance.
  • Present clearly and confidently to groups of international students, especially at orientation events.
  • Maintain accurate, thorough records in the student management system.
  • Assist international admissions staff with processing applications, when required.
  • Adhere at all times to the Education (Pastoral Care of International Students) Code of Practice.
  • Experience in working with international students face-to-face and by email and phone.
  • Touch-typing with fast, accurate data entry.
  • Attention to detail, integrity, confidentiality, calmness under pressure.  
  • Energy, enthusiasm, professionalism and willingness to go the extra mile to achieve objectives and help other team members.
  • Fluent written English and knowledge of another language (highly desirable)

This role is based mostly in Porirua but the successful applicant will work occasionally in Petone or central Wellington as directed by the Team Leader.
